Purpose

A hoodie or hoody is a warm and cosy cotton or nylon sweatshirt with a hood and great for many outdoor activites in or out of the water. You can also use it for resistance swimming training as it gets heavy when soaked and then just feels awesome.

Function

The hood provides good cover for your head on windy days and protects against sunburn, stings and other marine hazards. Some have a front pocket to carry food or whatever. They are fun to wear in the water or as a dry warm up afterwards. Carry a few in your swimwear bag.

Different Fabrics

Hoodies come in nylon, polyester or cotton of different weight. Wet cotton will cool you somewhat out of water, so it's good for warm days or hot climates. Some hoodies are thin, like hooded T-shirts. Others are thick and get very heavy when wet. This is good for resistance swimming and weight training.

Keeping Warm

We lose about 1/3 of our heat through the head as the blood vessels can't constrict like they can do elsewhere. A hood helps reduce this heat loss, thus keeping you warmer.

Cool Sound Effects

A wet hoodie creates awesome sound effects when the hood goes up on your head. It amplifies the sound around you like a big ear. You also hear the water inside your hoodie splashing around when you go swimming.
